Health Insurance and Car Insurance argument by the left

You have to have car insurance, why not health insurance?
For the past 6 months I have heard the case being made for health care reform and why everyone in the country should be covered. There have been many analogies used while arguing the case for health care reform.
The one argument that comes up often is, you are forced to have car insurance then the government should be able to force you to have health insurance.
This specious argument, examined closely, has so many holes in it that it would be considered a holy relic.(bad joke-but i felt like it)
First and foremost-No one in our country is required to own a car. If you own a car, insurance is rightfully mandated, as it should be, by the states and not Washington DC.
Car insurance is there to protect other motorist. Each state has minimums that each licensed car owner must have. The liability minimums are for the protection of other drivers in case you cause an accident. Banks and Finance companies require you to have collision insurance if they are the lien holder on your car. Comprehensive insurance is your choice in most states.
I can purchase car insurance from any company that is licensed in my state to conduct business. My Insurance company happens to reside in another state. This may be different in other states. States on their own decide how to do business, not the federal government mandating it from Washington.
If 8 million people live in New York City and only 1 million own cars, does that mean that the other 7 million people are required to carry car insurance in order to ride the bus, take a subway, or hail a cab? Try forcing this argument on 7 million New Yorkers and let me know if you still have any front teeth after you finish.
There is another angle liberals may argue about the 7 million New Yorkers who do not have car insurance because they do not own a vehicle.
A liberal would argue that the 7 million New Yorkers who don't own a vehicle should have car insurance to subsidize those drivers who own cars but choose to drive without car insurance which is unlawful. They drive around all day uninsured, taking their chances, being irresponsible with their money, endangering others, and expecting everyone else to clean up their mess if they should get in an accident.
This is liberal thinking pure and simple. This thought process is inarguably stupid and without merit if we continue in a democracy. If we morph into a completely socialized country then this thinking makes total sense and our country will be so far gone by this time we will be wards of the state.
Health Care is not a right. Health care is a choice, that people have to make on their own. Granted, there is a valid argument that should be addressed concerning pre-existing conditions and people not being able to afford the monthly payments because of health situations that cause their premiums to be astronomical. All that being said, we do not need the federal government stepping in and taking over 1/6 of our economy because 30 million people do not have health care insurance. That would be like getting rid of your car because the back right window doesn't roll down all the way.
No one is turned away because they don't have health insurance in this country so that argument does not have legs. States are forced to pick up these costs with taxpayer medicaid dollars. I have been in emergency rooms on a Saturday night with a waiting room full of people, and half are there without health insurance and no one was turned away.
Liberals should bring to the debate an argument that they have researched thoroughly and can answer any question the opposition may have, rather than take the ridiculouse course of "hurry and pass this bill so we can find out what is in the bill" like Nancy Pelosi said earlier.
